Frome is around fourteen miles east of our base in Wells and we cover the town and the BA11 area, including Beckington, Nunney, Mells and the villages between.
We work in GRP fibreglass, EPDM rubber and felt, taking on repairs, re-covers and full replacements on domestic and commercial flat roofs.
What Frome rooftops are usually like
Frome has one of the larger conservation areas in Somerset and an unusually high number of listed buildings for a town of its size, particularly around the steep streets in the old centre. Flat roofing there tends to be small-scale and detail-heavy: rear extensions squeezed onto sloping sites, lead-detailed sections, lightwells, and roofs that meet stone walls on more than one side.
Newer parts of the town are more conventional, with post-war and modern estate housing carrying flat-roofed garages, extensions and dormers. Those are usually straightforward GRP or EPDM jobs once the old covering is off.
What we get called out for in Frome
- Small rear extension roofs on period property in and around the conservation area
- Failed lead and flashing detail where a flat roof meets an older stone or rendered wall
- Split felt on estate garages and 1970s extensions
- Roofs on sloping sites where water is being pushed the wrong way
- Rotten decking discovered under a covering that had been patched repeatedly
- Fascia, soffit and guttering replacement carried out with the roof work
Getting to you in Frome
Frome is a little further out than our Wells and Shepton work, but it is a regular area for us and there is no call-out charge attached to coming to look. We will survey the roof, put the quote in writing, and leave you to think about it.
Postcodes covered: BA11, plus the surrounding villages.
Flat roofing questions we get asked in Frome
Is my property likely to need consent for flat roof work?
If it is listed, or the work is visible and you are in the conservation area, it may. We will flag it at survey stage. We would rather tell you before we start than have the work questioned afterwards.
Do you cover the villages around Frome?
Yes, the BA11 area generally, including Beckington, Nunney, Mells and the surrounding villages.
Can EPDM be used on a small, awkward roof?
Often yes, and it is frequently the better choice on small roofs because it can be laid as a single sheet with very few joins. Where the shape is very broken up, GRP can detail more neatly. We will tell you which we would use on yours.
